Dubai celebrates the opening of its Museum of the Future

Dubai celebrates the opening of its Museum of the Future
February 23, 2022

Dubai has opened its Museum of the Future located next to the Emirates Towers on Sheikh Zayed Road and spanning an impressive 30,000 square metres it comprises seven stories with the 24 square metre high Museum having a number of floors dedicated to different experiences.

Constructed from fiberglass and stainless steel frame, the development was designed by architecture firm Killa Design, and has already been recognised by National Geographic as one of the world’s 14 most beautiful museums. It has also been dubbed via twitter by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai as “the most beautiful building on earth.”

The Museum’s website introduces the experience by stating “to reimagine the future, we must be open to new possibilities. Join us on a journey to 2071. Pioneer new worlds and ways of living, and return to shape today’s world for the better.”

The Museum includes exhibits predicting how next-generation solutions - from artificial intelligence to augmented reality - can enhance and revolutionise humanity for the better, and was described by UAE officials at the opening as being an “architectural and engineering marvel, confidently straddling the past and the future and applying advanced technology to traditional art forms.”

The Museum of the Future was illuminated with stunning futuristic light projections on Tuesday, 22nd February (an historically significant palindrome date) marking its historic opening to the world. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, along with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, inaugurated the iconic landmark during a grand ceremony that saw the Museum's exterior facade transform into a work of art.

During the opening ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid advised "The Museum of the Future is a message of hope, a global scientific platform, and an integrated institutional framework to shape a better future for all of us."

‘Tomorrow Today’ is an ever-evolving showcase of innovations, made in collaboration with public and private partners from around the world, which explores how designers, researchers and corporations are responding today to our most urgent challenges.

Three floors of the Museum include immersive exhibitions which focus on outer space resource development, ecosystems and bioengineering, along with health and wellbeing.

Another floor showcases near-future technologies that aim to be revolutionary by addressing challenges in areas including health, water, food, transportation and energy.

Children also have a floor dedicated to them, encouraging exploration and participating in solving challenges with the Museum’s site stating to become “our future heroes,”

The museum is filled with quotes from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, of which one enveloping the façade translates to “we may not live for hundreds of years, but the products of our creativity can leave a legacy long after we are gone. The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it and execute it. It isn’t something you await, but rather create.”

Sheikh Hamdan added "The Museum of the Future will be an intellectual laboratory for cities of the future and governments of the future.. it will play a key role in strengthening Dubai's future position. The Museum will provide a clear roadmap for Dubai's vital sectors."
