The enduring appeal of the Laguna Phuket Triathlon, comprising a 1.8 kilometre swim, 55 kilometre bike ride and a 12 kilometre run, as well as half distance challenges, has broken previous records for participation.

The 21st annual Laguna Phuket Triathlon (LPT) held last Sunday (23rd November) and the 2nd Challenge Laguna Phuket (CLP), being held on Sunday 30th November, have attracted more than 1,400 entries totaling approximately 2,300 athletes representing 44 nationalities.

This year’s Challenge Laguna Phuket will see world champions compete for a slice of the race’s 25,000 Euro prize purse.

Following the success of its inaugural event in 2013, the weeklong event Challenge Laguna Phuket Tri-Fest carnival has already kicked off with the 21st Laguna Phuket Triathlon taking place at the weekend.

The unique enduring appeal of Laguna Phuket Triathlon and the half distance challenges of Challenge Laguna Phuket featuring 1.9 kilometre swim, 90 kilometre bike ride and a 21 kilometre run, have attracted entries from leading international pro athlete personalities, as well as age groupers worldwide.

The LPT field was headed by Massimo Cigana of Italy and Belinda Granger of AustraliaUS), both recognised as true LPT Legends for their multiple wins over the years.

Granger, making her 12th LPT appearance this year, announced her retirement from her pro athlete career with the 2014 Challenge Laguna Phuket Tri-Fest registered as her last races.
