Overwhelming response for HYROX Australian fitness competition

Overwhelming response for HYROX Australian fitness competition
August 1, 2023

HYROX, Europe's largest fitness race, is counting down to the running of its inaugural Asia Pacific fitness competition in Australia later this month, noting that the response to the event having been "overwhelming".

Hyrox’s first APAC events are scheduled to take place in Sydney on 12th August at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, followed by Melbourne at Melbourne Showground, Ascot Vale on 26th August.

Since registrations opened in April this year, the response to HYROX Australia has been overwhelming, with over 5,500 everyday athletes jumping aboard and Melbourne's event about to sell out with less than 100 tickets remaining. Coupled with over 3,000 spectators, these events promise to provide an impressive sports festival-like atmosphere.

Fitness franchise BFT has partnered with HYROX to become the brand's exclusive training centre in Asia Pacific. The largest global partnership for HYROX not only gives Australian exercise enthusiasts something to train for but also helps to boost HYROX’s profile across the APAC region, while driving BFT brand awareness in Europe as they continue their worldwide expansion.

HYROX is described as “more than a race; it's the fitness competition for everybody”, and has seen more than 50,000 participants compete at their events in London, New York, Madrid, Hamburg and Amsterdam, making them the largest fitness race in the world.

The fitness competition combines endurance and functional workouts and celebrates the basics of human movement; running, pushing, pulling, jumping and throwing.

The standardised format comprises 1km running segments interspersed with 8 functional workout stations - including SkiErg, Sled Push and Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, and Wall Balls.

Each participant is equipped with a timing chip, capturing huge amounts of performance metrics and creating comparative global ranking across all events, divisions, and age groups.

The events scheduled for Sydney and Melbourne will see HYROX give gym goers a platform to test their strength, skill and endurance, while doing exercises you would usually find in any gym class. This makes the event one of the most accessible in the world, as competitors compete at their own pace depending on their fitness levels.

Mat Lock, HYROX Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand enthused "we are super excited to bring HYROX Down Under. It's no secret that Aussies share a passion for fitness and HYROX provides the perfect platform for everyday athletes to train and test themselves alongside their mates."

HYROX is designed to be accessible for everyone from fitness enthusiasts to elite competitors. Whether participating as a solo entrant, teaming up for the Doubles division with a mate, or taking part in a Relay as a team of four, HYROX has something for everyone.

HYROX promises an unforgettable Australian experience for participants and spectators alike noting “this is not just a fitness event, it's a celebration of human strength, determination, and community.”

HYROX's originated in Germany, where the inaugural event in 2017 saw 650 participants. Today, HYROX has races in 17 countries, and welcomes more than 120,000 global participants to the HYSOCIETY each year.
