Lotte World virtual rollercoaster experience enhanced via e-Um 5G network service
South Korean theme park, Lotte World, has launched a virtual rollercoaster ride that uses the high-speed and ultra-low-latency private e-Um 5G network service.
The Atlantis roller coaster is the most popular ride in the amusement park. High-quality videos and movements are collected through cameras and sensors installed on the rollercoaster and transmits them in real time via the 28 GHz network using motion simulators, large screens and sound equipment.
According to The Korea Times, the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT said that Lotte World will feature 5G Atlantis, allowing visitors to experience a virtual rollercoaster ride using the e-Um 5G network.
According to market research firm Grand View Research, the global 5G private network market is expected to grow to $41 billion by 2030 from $1.6 billion in 2022.
In 2022, The Ministry of Science and ICT announced the launch of the pilot demonstration of ‘5G Mobile Communications Convergence Project’ together with the National Information Society Agency (NIA) and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA).
The 5G Mobile Communications Convergence Project aims to discover and spread the use of 5G convergence services by tapping into private 5G networks and 5G technologies. The Project consists of three demonstration projects with 11 sub-tasks from the public and private sectors and is invested with a total of 48 billion won (US$37 million dollars).
Lotte World is among the array of enterprises and institutions participating in the 5G Project with the ‘5G alliance’ aiming to encourage cooperation among industries, universities, research institutions, and public associations.
The Ministry has been supporting the spread of various services utilising the e-Um 5G network service and advises "after more than two years of effort, the consortium that includes Lotte World and Newgens have developed the facility that can transmit high-capacity data such as videos without delay over long distances at high speed through the 28 gigahertz (GHz) network.”
