Kyrgyzstan Government to develop 45,000-seat national stadium
March 19, 2024

Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov has ordered the construction of a new national stadium with a 45,000-seat capacity.

The project, to be built in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, was announced today at the end of last week by Kanybek Tumanbaev, Head of the Central Asian nation’s Presidential Affairs Management Office.

Writing on Facebook, Tumanbaev said the project said the venture will be led by Chairman of the State National Security Committee and President of the Kyrgyz Football Union, Kamchybek Tashiev.

To be built in the shape of a yurt - the traditional tent used by nomadic groups in the steppes and mountains of Inner Asia - the stadium will serve as the home of the Kyrgyzstan national team.

In May, FIFA President Gianni Infantino called for a new national football stadium to be built in Kyrgyzstan to aid the development of the sport in the country.

Publishing the preliminary design of the venue, Tumanbaev advised “the architectural project is adapted to our national values and is similar to a yurt. In accordance with modern requirements, all conditions at the stadium were thought out: shops, recreation areas and parking spaces. We will begin construction work in the coming days.”
