First completed venue marks milestone in Shanghai World Centre leisure complex
International architectural practice Aedas have completed their first building in the Hongqiao World Centre complex in the Chinese city of Shanghai, a leaf-shaped arts and exhibition space which will anchor the wider project.
Located next to Shanghai’s Qingpu Xujing Conference and Exhibition Centre, when complete the Hongqiao World Centre will offer a five-star hotel, a shopping centre and a sales gallery, supporting facilities to one of the world’s largest conference centres and the larger Hongqiao central business district.
The leaf-shaped Gallery arts and exhibition space has a design consistent with other structures in the complex and it linked to the Qingpu Xujing Conference and Exhibition Centre Gallery via a pedestrian bridge.
In a statement, Aedas explained “the leaf-shaped buildings are organised coherently to direct circulation towards the Qingpu Centre, one of the world’s largest exhibition centres.
“The hotel and shopping centre will work together to form a very welcoming entrance to the whole development, while the Gallery, as the first building visitors will see coming out from the convention and exhibition centre, is designed to be seductive with a strong visual impact.”
