Chimelong Spaceship Theme Park secures unprecedented seven Guinness World Records
September 22, 2023

Ahead of its official opening, the all-new Chimelong Spaceship Theme Park in Zhuhai, China, has become the recipient of an unprecedented seven Guinness World Records.

Designed by Los Angeles-based Legacy Entertainment and filling 397,064 square meters, Chimelong Spaceship is an aquatic theme park, built around what is now the world's largest aquarium facility (75,350,969 litres of tanks), with the world's largest single aquarium tank.

Unlike the new SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, which opened in May, Chimelong Spaceship features orcas, which will live in the park's 56,450,136 litre main tank, which can generate waves up to 3.2 metres, making it the world's largest indoor artificial wave. The orcas are part of the Chimelong Spaceship's Whale Universe, one of 15 themed zones in the park.

Another themed zone is Coral Secret, which features the world's largest living coral reef exhibit, spread over 10 specialised coral tanks of more than 2,848,562 litre total.

More than 150,000 marine animals of more than 400 species will be on display at Chimelong Spaceship.

The park's rides are located in the Universe Paradise, which features China's first real underwater submarine ride, Deep Sea Submarine, as well as a collection of themed carnival rides and play areas.

The highlight in Universe Paradise is the world's largest motion simulator attraction, Bermuda Storm, which accommodates up to 304 riders on a single motion-base platform, watching on what the park is calling the world's largest curved projection screen, at 1,682 square meters.

The Chimelong Spaceship was designed by the team at Legacy Entertainment, the California-based firm renowned as one of the world’s leading designers of Theme Parks and Aquariums. The company’s signature projects include: Shanghai Haicang Ocean Park, Lotte World Adventure Busan, and The Sea Shell at VinWonders, Phu Quoc. The California-based firm is also active in the arena of resort design, with flagship resort projects having included Studio City Macau and Galaxy Macau. Most recently, the firm opened Batavia - the world’s first, overwater retail mall at Indonesia’s PIK development.

The new Chimelong Spaceship Theme Park began Soft Openings on 16th September 2023, in order to take advantage of the high demand generated by the upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays. An official opening date has yet to be announced.

The theme park is located next to the 1,250-room Chimelong Spaceship Hotel and is part of the same resort as Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, which ranked as one of the world's top 10 most-visited theme parks before the pandemic.

Seven Guinness World Records include:

  1. World’s Largest Indoor Theme Park: With 397,064 square meters of enclosed area (4,271,783 square feet), the park surpasses previous recordholder Warner Brothers Abu Dhabi.
  2. World’s Largest Aquarium: With a combined total of 75,350,969 litres of tanks, Chimelong surpasses its own record established at the neighbouring Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in 2014. The facility houses 38 aquarium tanks, home to nearly 300 species.
  3. World’s Largest Aquarium Tank: Breaking their own record once again, the park’s largest tank has a capacity of 56,450,136 litres.
  4. World’s Largest Indoor Artificial Wave: The park’s record-breaking main tank is equipped with hardware capable of generating waves measuring up to 3.2 metres

  7. World’s Largest Curved Projection Screen: Accompanying “Bermuda Storm’s” supersized simulator platform is a colossal projection screen, encompassing over 1,682 square meters of surface.
