July 28, 2010

Beijing's 2008 Olympic swimming venue, the Water Cube, is set be relaunched as an indoor waterpark on 8th August.

Following a 10 month reconstruction, the National Swimming Centre will, at a cost of 350 billion yuan (US$57 million), be Asia's largest and most advanced water park when it reopens.

The waterpark will offer a range of rides and attractions in a controlled environment that automatically regulates indoor temperatures according to different seasons.

Features within the waterpark include:

• Tornado - a fully enclosed waterslide descending from the tallest tower in the water park.
• Bulletbowl - a double tube corkscrew slide that exits into the waterpark's Lazy River.
• AquaLoop - The WhiteWater West Industries Ltd popular looping waterslide.
• Children's Pool - with special slides designed for small children plus a huge variety of water toy activity elements.
• RideHouse - a world first where visitors can create their own fun by interacting and playing on this playground of water. The RideHouse features 12 slides, more than any other water play structure in the world.

On top of the RideHouse is a giant 'water cube' that is constantly filled with water, and when the water level reaches its limit every two minutes, the bucket slowly tips and drops water on the waiting visitors below.

• Pipeline - a classic thrilling waterslide for two riders.
• Wavepool - the waves are operated at 10-minute intervals throughout the day, allowing visitors to splash around and enjoy the excitement and adventure of bobbing on the water with family and friends, then relaxing in the shallow end of the beach entry to the pool.
• Spa Pools - a place to relax.
• Lazy River - giving visitors the opportunity to lay back and relax while floating down the river.

Water park tickets will cost 200 yuan for an adult while viewing and swimming tickets remain at 30 and 50 yuan respectively.
