Welcome to Wai Ariki – a world class unique cultural and spa experience that is proudly Ngāti Whakaue Māori.  This brand-new facility is a jewel in Rotorua’s crown, bringing together the historic healing qualities of the geothermal waters with our unique Ngāti Whakaue Māori culture to bring a truly outstanding experience to visitors, within a spectacular setting.

We are delighted to bring this new and pivotal role to the market on behalf of the owners – Pukeroa Lakefront Holdings Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pukeroa Oruawhata Trust and management company Belgravia Leisure NZ.

Reporting to the General Manager NZ (Belgravia Leisure NZ), this role has 5 direct reports with an overall responsibility of 50 team members.  The General Manager will have full accountability over the property ensuring that team members provide guests with an exceptional experience, whilst achieving revenue targets, generating new business, maintaining budgeted expenses and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

The key elements of this role include:
• Strategic focus and leadership
• Governance – strong relationships with key stakeholders, including reporting
• Financial management – accurate management, financial information and monitoring systems, including development and management of the facilities physical and financial assets
• People – leading a strong management team, positive performance-based culture, human resource strategy, promote Te Reo Māori and nga Tikanga within the organization
• Guest experience – delivery of a world-class, luxury guest experience that provides guests with a unique cultural spa wellness journey which is proudly Ngāti Whakaue Māori
• Workplace Health & Safety leadership and accountability

This is a key role for all stakeholders and we invite applications from candidates who have proven management experience within a large, luxury cultural and wellness retreat, Hot Springs and Bathing property, or Resort featuring a Wellness Retreat.  Previous experience with a start-up business or greenfield project would be advantageous. 

Our ideal candidate will be a role model for personal health and well-being and show an ongoing commitment to Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, to promote, preserve and foster this within the organization.

The General Manager will lead and develop the capabilities and performance of the people within the organization. Prioritising and implementation of short- and long-term plans which reflect the needs of a start-up business, with the ability to build on early success with longer term sustainable results. With excellent commercial acumen, we require a candidate who has sound judgement, and the ability to think decisively, analytically and in conceptual terms. You’ll have the ability to manage growth while achieving service and profitability outcomes.
