Walltopia’s new attraction opens at China’s Ocean Flower Island
November 3, 2021

Leading climbing wall and active entertainment manufacturer Walltopia has revealed that its recently opened attraction in Ocean Flower Island, China - completed for Evergrande - represents an Adventure Hub with a footprint of 2200 2200 metre² and a height of 16 metres featuring ocean-themed Ropes courses, Fun Walls, Artificial Cave, the Rollglider, Adventure Trail, Elevated Kids Playgrounds, and more.

Ocean Flower Island is an artificial archipelago located off the north coast of Danzhou, Hainan, China, west of the Yangpu Peninsula. The project, built by the Evergrande Group, consists of three independent islets with a total area of 381 hectares with an investment of US$24 billion.

The Evergrande Group is the second-largest construction company in China with over 1,300 projects in more than 280 Chinese cities. Its property management department is involved in nearly 2,800 projects in more than 310 cities across the country. The group has seven divisions covering a wide range of businesses, including electric cars, healthcare, consumer products, video and television productions, and a theme park.

Lately, Evergrande has been in the headlines of international media with its financial troubles threatening China’s economy and the stock markets. However, the Ocean Flower Island project opened successfully some days ago.

Ocean Flower Island is comprised of a 127,000 metre² marine world with a water park, 23 recreation projects, 28 characteristic museums, 40 kilometres of coastline, 58 hotels, six commercial streets, seven folklore performance squares, eight themed food streets, an Amphitheater, an Arboretum, an impressive Central glass atrium, Convention facilities, Gardens, an Ice skating rink, a shopping mall, luxury residential housing, a massive Central Park, a Music hall, an Opera house, Sports fields, a Tourist tower, and a World fairyland.

The Walltopia Adventure Hub is part of the Central Park.

Cveta Mihaylova (pictured above) from Sales and Business Development at Walltopia China advises “Ocean Flower Adventure Hub is an ambitious complex attraction comprised of interconnected themed facilities.

“When you enter, the first thing you see are the themed sea animal elements, and you find yourself in the low-level kids’ area. As you climb higher, you discover more and more activities for the different age groups.

“We have a netted playground and kids’ ropes course at the children’s area consisting of 22 obstacles. A state-of-the-art GRP squid tentacle surrounds it. Right across from the Kids’ Rope Course is the “whale” playground with a simultaneous capacity reaching 50 people, where the youngest kids can play in a harness-free, fully protected environment.

“The adult and teen zones form a spiral of activities inspired by the shape of the beautiful Muricid shells found around the coastlines of Hainan.

“A Walltopia Adventure trail made of “sea bubbles” surrounds these zones. Visitors can crawl between the bubbles through net tunnels.

Mihaylova adds “In the Hub, we also incorporated a high ropes course with 28 obstacles of various difficulty levels, a Fun Walls zone with sea-life-themed interactive climbing walls designed especially for Ocean Flower,  a 48 meters long exploration cave, and slides. Оn top of the structure is a 150 m Gravity Rollglider, to spike the adrenaline even in the bravest participants.”

An Evergrande Bidding Engineer shared that the main central park of Ocean Flower Island was planned as an outdoor leisure and entertainment location which would provide multiple activities for tourists. Active entertainment facilities such as the Children's amusement area and The Exploration Centre were meant for teenagers and little children to play and enjoy and at the same time enhance the tourists' experience with a visually appealing construction. Walltopia's products and the design they offered were selected as very suitable for the task.

Evergrande chose Walltopia because “In the first place, because Walltopia is a well-known brand. The company provides an extensive range of products, and the facilities developed by them are exciting and have a powerful play factor.

“Walltopia is a strong player in the industry, and its excellent product design and manufacturing capacity were the main reasons we picked them.

“Second, their concept and design aligned with Ocean Flower Island’s main Central Park idea, and that was a good fit, the company speaker said.

Asked how the process went an Evergrande Procurement Department Project Lead commented “we can confidently say that everything went very well. One of the great things was that in the process Walltopia set up an office in Shanghai, and that made communication very easy. We actually don’t have even a single complaint.

“The team at Walltopia takes its work very seriously and executes tasks with a high level of responsibility. We feel that Walltopia is a trustworthy partner.

“We chose them for their reputation and design and quality track record in the industry, and they lived up to it.”

To summarize, Valya Krasteva, Sales and Business Development at Walltopia China (pictured above), explained “we have now collaborated with the Evergrande team for almost six years. During this process, we worked with exceptional professionals in design, engineering, operation, and project management.

“The Design and Engineering stage took approximately six months to finalise.

“However, the execution phase, consisting of production, shipment, and assembly, was delayed due to COVID-19 and what would usually take six months took almost a  year to complete.

“Seeing it open today, we are very proud of our work, and we are happy that Evergrande chose Walltopia to design and build an attraction facility of this size. The trending active entertainment activities combined in a single-themed structure with a storyline, are a perfect example of what we can do. No other company in our industry today can create such complex and monumental projects.”
