Shanghai’s Mercedes-Benz Arena hosts biggest rock concert in China since the beginning of 2020
Chinese indie rock band Re-TROS (Rebuilding the Rights of Statues) have staged the biggest rock concert in China since the beginning of 2020 with 10,000 fans attending Shanghai's Mercedes-Benz Arena last Saturday (22nd May).
Presented by Live Nation, the sold-out show was a historical performance of firsts, with tickets having sold out in one day; Re-TROS becoming the first Chinese rock band to perform at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, and the concert being first large-scale rock performance since the return of live music in the region.
Dividing their concert into three chapters, the specially designed triangular stage used for the concert was created to reflect the Re-TROS’s logo.
Welcoming the success of the concert, Edward Liu, Managing Director of Live Nation China, stated “the show was a momentous celebration of sound, and there is no greater joy than that of live music and seeing fans connect with their favourite artists.
“It’s been four years since the last time we saw Re-TROS on stage for a headline show and (the) night was and unprecedented, ingenious and a spectacular display of Chinese rock music that will go down in history.”
China, the first country to be affected by Coronavirus in 2020, has been staging a growing number of concerts with increasing capacity since the beginning of last year.
Earlier this month thousands of music fans flocked to Wuhan's Garden Strawberry Music Festival to celebrate the five-day May Day national holiday.
In March, Live Nation announced the expansion of its global artist discovery platform, ONES TO WATCH, to mainland China. Named Xīng Xiān Kàn in Mandarin and resembles the original brand mission, to focus on artist discovery.
ONES TO WATCH China is set to be the number one destination for local music fans to discover their new favourite artists. The platform will showcase the rising new talent within China including musicians, bands, and producers who will be provided with professional support to help kickstart their careers.
