International Olympic Committee executives arrive in Australia to agree broadcast rights for Brisbane Olympics
November 14, 2022

The broadcasting rights for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games are set to be agreed this week with an International Olympics Committee (IOC) contingent in Sydney to discuss details.

According to a report in The Sydney Morning Herald, the IOC group will meet with Nine Entertainment Co, Seven West Media and Paramount to discuss a broadcasting deal which includes the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane, as well as the Winter Olympic Games over the next decade.

Leading the IOC stakeholders is Anne-Sophie Voumard, President of Broadcast and Media Rights for IOC Television and Marketing Services.

Nine has outlined ambitions to secure the rights to all Games until the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

However, the Olympic Games present a range of revenue challenges for broadcasters, generally costing more to run than they bring in.

The Seven Network recorded a $50 million loss for the 2020 Tokyo Games despite breaking audience records when broadcast in 2021.

Today has also seen global domain name registrar and website host, GoDaddy launch a new advertising campaign that leverages its sponsorship of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).
