Gay Games Hong Kong launches new promotional campaign

Gay Games Hong Kong launches new promotional campaign
July 16, 2022

Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2023 (GGHK) is inviting everyone to come out for the Games in 2023 and as such has produced a video campaign, developed by DDB Group Hong Kong, which aims to generate excitement and motivate people to start thinking about planning for the 11th Gay Games, taking place in Hong Kong in November next year.

Featuring both an online video and a series of social media influencer activities, the campaign builds on the teaser video, “Everyone get ready to come out for the games”, released late last year. The launch video extends the invitation by showing a diverse range of people from a variety of ethnicities, sexual orientations, religions, gender identities, ages, abilities, professions, and backgrounds excitedly coming out to support the games.

Co-hosted with Guadalajara, Mexico, the 11th Gay Games will be the first in both Asia and Latin America, as well the first time to be hosted in two cities simultaneously. Open to everyone 18 and above, the Games welcome everyone to participate regardless of ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, and athletic ability.

To be held during 3rd-11th November 2023 in both cities, the Games will be one of the largest sports, arts & culture events of next year, bringing the global community together through the power of sports and culture. In addition to 22 sports, GGHK will feature Opening & Closing Ceremonies, Festival Village, Arts & Culture events with daily performances, Gala Concert, art exhibitions, and a variety of events to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Gay Games.

Registration opens in late summer 2022. Featured sports include Mahjong, Dodgeball and Dragonboat which are unique to the Hong Kong Gay Games. Other sports including track and field, marathon, trail running, open water swimming, hockey, fencing, and many more.

With the expected relaxation of social distancing rules, GGHK is organising a series of promotional events beginning July 2022 in Hong Kong and around the world, including pop-ups at major European and Asian sports and community events. With events expected to welcome 2,000 participants per month on average over the next 18 months, as well as 7,000 participants and 25,000 visitors during November 2023, the Hong Kong-hosted Games are expected to bring 70,000 individuals together to celebrate this global experience.
