Construction completed on Phnom Penh’s new Cambodian National Stadium
Construction work on the new Morodok Techo National Stadium in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh has been completed.
Set to be a key venue during Cambodia’s Southeast Asian Games in 2023, the 60,000-seat stadium is the second largest in the country behind the Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium, which has a capacity of 70,000.
Located 10 kilometres north of downtown Phnom Penh in the Chroy Changvar District, the Chinese-funded venue was designed by IPPR International Engineering Corporation and built by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation.
In a video posted on Cambodia SEA GAMES 2023’s Facebook page, Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee Secretary-General, Vat Chamreoun “all seats for spectators are installed, the lanes for runners and the football court are also built. The pools surrounding the stadium are now filled with water.”
With Cambodia’s hosting of the SEA Games to be its first since it began participating in 1961, the venue will the main venue for football and athletics.
The 60,000-seat stadium will be a key venue during the Southeast Asian Games in 2023. It will be the first time that Cambodia has staged the Games, despite having been a participant since 1961.
The Morodok Techo National Stadium precinct cover 85 hectares.
