Aventuur names Adrian Buchan as Director of Surf and Sustainability
March 21, 2022

Global surf park developer Aventuur has announced that professional surfer and sustainability advocate Adrian 'Ace' Buchan has joined the company as its Director of Surf and Sustainability.

Aventuur has offices in Los Angeles, California, Perth, Western Australia and Gold Coast, Queensland and holds the exclusive rights to the market-leading Wavegarden Cove surf park technology for Australia (excluding Melbourne and Sydney metro areas), New Zealand, Singapore and Fiji, and is Wavegarden’s largest partner globally.

Buchan, an elite surfing athlete, has spent the last 16 years competing on the World Surf League Championship Tour, achieving two event victories over Kelly Slater at Hossegor (France) and Teahupoo (Tahiti), and consistently maintaining a Top 20 ranking.

During his career, Buchan has served as an ambassador for some of the world’s leading sports brands including Hurley, Nike, Dragon Alliance, JS Industries, Hydroflask and True Protein and has represented his fellow competitors as the World Pro Surfers Athlete Representative. He is also a Board Member at Surfing Australia, Australia’s national sporting organisation for surfing, and formerly sat on the WSL Board.

As a father of three, Buchan is deeply passionate about protecting our oceans and the earth for future generations. His work as a social and environmental advocate includes being a founding director and board member of Surfers For Climate, and serving as an advocate for Take3 For The Sea Foundation, WSL Pure and The Sapphire Project.

Buchan notes “I’m stoked to announce that I’ve joined Aventuur as Director of Surf and Sustainability. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to explore some of the world’s most beautiful coastal regions with my family, and I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of surfing to change lives and bring people together.

“While I’m still committed to surfing and competing at the highest level, my new role will enable me to combine my skills and passions to ensure our surf parks are developed sustainably, empower our local communities, and deliver authentic, memorable surfing experiences. I'm particularly interested in the role that surf parks can play as community assets, using surf therapy as the cornerstone to a broader wellness offering.”

Aventuur has assembled an expert team to deliver world-class, integrated surf park developments, and Buchan’s appointment adds invaluable experience to the business as it continues to expand its global footprint.

Nicholas Edelman, Co-Founder and Chief Executive of Aventuur notes “we’re thrilled to have Ace join the Aventuur team. With almost two decades competing on the World Championship Tour, Ace has deep knowledge and insight about surfing history, culture and what makes experiences in the water memorable.

“Further, Ace’s work with the WSL, Surfing Australia and leading social and environmental organisations will help ensure that as a business, we do everything we can to support local surfing communities and minimise our impact on the planet.

“Ace is intelligent, articulate, proactive, and his positivity is infectious. I couldn’t be happier to welcome him on board.”

Aventuur has been selected by the Western Australian Government to deliver an $80 million surf park in Perth, featuring a Wavegarden ‘Cove’ surfing lagoon, boutique surf hotel, recovery and fitness centre centre, casual working offices, functions and event spaces, a high performance surfing academy, as along with a beach club and restaurants in Cockburn, approximately 15 kilometres south of Perth’s CBD.
